Goutham K.B. is a multi-disciplinary architect, urban planner, and development strategist redefining how cities and communities are imagined, built, and transformed. As the founder of Spacebar Architecture + Urbanism (SA+U), his practice operates at the cutting edge of design, research, and policy crafting spatial solutions that are deeply rooted in context, community, and justice.
An alumnus of RV College of Architecture, and a double master’s graduate in Masters in Planning from SPA Vijayawada and an MSc in Urban Management and Development from the Erasmus University Rotterdam, Goutham has been recognized with the prestigious Holland Scholarship and the EFL Foundation research grant for his outstanding contributions to urban research and practice. His projects range from eco-tourism circuits and residential-commercial projects to urban-scale frameworks like the Comprehensive Development Plan for Bhubaneswar 2032, the Sustainable Regional Plan for Ludhiana 2042, and the Environmental Resilience Plan for Bheemavaram.
His groundbreaking livelihood upgradation framework for SELCO Foundation introduces a parameterized toolkit to spatially enhance the everyday working environments of low-income entrepreneurs, reshaping how inclusive development is approached on the ground. His field research in the conflicted zones of Bengaluru and South Rotterdam unpacks the layered politics of land, informality, and governance, work that earned distinction for his thesis, “Decoding Urban Frictions : Navigating urban land conflicts between the informality, residents and the state”. As a researcher, he also contributed to the dengue mitigation planning in Cubucu de Cima, Brazil, collaborating with local and international stakeholders to develop action strategies rooted in spatial and health analytics. Additionally, he co-authored a policy brief for the Municipality of Rotterdam, addressing stakeholder engagement and social sustainability in vulnerable neighborhoods.
Goutham’s work stands at the nexus of systems thinking and research-driven spatial transformation, bridging theory and action to shape environments that are resilient, inclusive, and future-ready.
