Dinesh Rao is a practicing architect with over 36 years of experience.
He is the Principal Architect at Monsoon Design, an architecture, planning and interior design firm based in Bengaluru.
He has a Dip. Arch. from the School of Architecture (now FA), Centre for Environmental Planning & Technology (CEPT), Ahmedabad, and has studied at the Eidgenossische Technische Hochschule (ETH), Zurich, as an exchange scholar.
He has previously worked at Architects’ Combine (Mumbai & Bengaluru) and Archipart (Zurich).
Alongside practicing, he has taught architectural design and theory at BIT, Bengaluru, MCE, Hassan, and RVCA, Bengaluru for 33 years.
He is a visiting critic at all the major architecture schools in Bangalore and Mysuru. He is currently Design Chair Professor at RVCA, mentoring design projects for senior undergraduate students.
He has served on the Board of Studies at the Siddaganga Institute of Technology, Tumakuru, as an industry expert, and contributed to the B.Arch. syllabus design at VTU.
He has collaborated with other designers, including Spazzio (New Delhi), Aakar Design (New Delhi), Pook Design (Hong Kong), Dobas (Luzern) and RDAI (Paris) on individual projects.
His projects have been published in journals including A+D, Indian Architect & Builder & MondoArc India. The Ganjam flagship store, in association with RDAI, was awarded the Prix Versailles, a UNESCO award, in 2016.
Besides architecture, landscape design and interior architecture, he has engaged in professional photography, set design, furniture and lighting design, visual brand identity and naming.
